according to our coverage partners at the dubuque telegraph herald -- an officer testified hicks told officers to kill him. the defense arguing he was confused and making odd statements. 15-thousand dollars in damage to a garage following a fire in dubuque. crews responding to the area of 22nd street and windsor avenue. fortunately, nobody got hurt in yesterday's fire -- no word on what caused it. people at an iowa assisted living home are given a month to find 60 people living in des moines were told that assistance would no longer be there after next month. a letter says the agreement requires only 30 days notice when there is a change in language, services or fees. they can stay but will have to pay out of pocket for private assistance... i think it's terrible very moves in a month." the company has yet to respond

midwest thursday night through saturday. this will bring strong winds during that time period, with slight chance for rain. the protests around the country, including here in iowa, over the dakota access oil pipeline. the pipeline would cross through much of iowa -- but a lot of the debate -- has been focused on a section of land in north dakota. around the country yesterday -- around 70 people at this one in dubuque. they stood in front of a u-s bank. an organization called "food and water watch" named u-s bank one of 38 banks helping to contribute money to the pipeline project. u-s bank did comment. (adria hogan, dubuque) "i'm out here today because we can't threatened, and their burial ground and their water resources are being threatened.

reid binion takes a look at some of the other protests around the "water is life!" demonstrators -- gathering in cities from coast to coast... heartland tuesday... finishing the for drinking water. the concern is that digging under those water sources will create a risk of senator and former thousands across the country opposing the project. "pipelines do leak. it's rare. slamming the army corps of their case to court. the corps -- saying it needs to discuss the issue further with the standing rock tribe... construction. i'm reid binion. the company building the pipline is asking a federal judge for permission to go around the government and keep construction going.... the judge hasn't ruled yet. police in california are working out the details of a case of road rage. it happened at a grocery store. police say a man started acting erratically while arguing with his girlfriend. he then grabbed his crying girlfriend and wrestled her to the ground. people near by stepped in to stop the fight. that's when witnesses say the driver tried to run over those who intervened. the crowd smashed the man's windows to stop him, but he then appears to hit a woman who had already fallen on the ground.

an assistant principal is facing charges after she got sick eating a cookie laced with marijuana. florida investigators say she got the cookie from her daughter because she wanted to try it for her 50th birthday. "it's out of character for this woman that everyone is shocked and of course it's disturbing. but given what we know at this time we have to take action." she's currently on paid leave at the school. a tech company - social media post about donald trump. on election night, matt harrigan -- who ran a cybersecurity company in california -- posted on social media that he planned to kill the president elect. when a friend warned him that he might get a visit from federal authorities -- he said -- bring it secret service. harrigan has apologized and deleted his facebook account. the company's board of directors said it doesn't condone comments like that and accepted his resignation.

after she seemed to endorse a racist comment about the first lady. this is what happened. after the election, a west virginia non-profit director posted this on facebook. she said it will be refreshing to have a classy, dignified first lady in the white house. she said i'm tired of seeing an ape in heels. the mayor of clay, west virginia "this is not the way i want my ape in heels, obviously is a racial slur." the woman who made the post is now on leave from her job at a racist. she says she was just happy to see a change in the white house. and now... the growing controversy over whether to police fake news stories on social media sites, like facebook. 62 percent of people get their news on social media. and facebook is the world's biggest

39 days left until christmas. this years festival of trees kicked off at the gallagher bluedorn performing arts center at uni. the theme is "a christmas to remember" and it's hard to forget all these unique trees. the festival of trees goes on until the 20th -- each day features a different event. and -- a week from tomorrow -- balloons and bat york city for the annual macy's thanksgiving day parade. this is the 90th anniversary of the parade. karen lee shows us some of the new floats -- and a little bit of history about the parade. from fantasy conception to tangible magic. "it's amazing!" "seeing all the colorful colors and all the artwork." new floats this year are the aloha spirit featuring a working waterfall, the girls scouts' building a better world, deck the halls and krazy glue's fun house.

"we always talk about the parade as being our gift to new york and to the country and when you get a gift, you never ask the price." now that they've been created-- getting 26 floats into new york the day before the parade-- is no easy feat. all of these 3-story, 24- foot wide, 30 to 40 feet long floats have to come apart and collapse and dismantled down to no more than 8 1/2 feet wide, no more than 12 tunnel."
